Back to Volunteer Fire Department

Qualifications and Training

Trinidad's Volunteer Fire Department includes local men and women in their twenties to some in their sixties. Volunteers must be in good physical condition and be willing and able to quickly respond to calls day or night. They must also be first aid and CPR certified. Training for such certification is offered regularly.

Advanced emergency response and fire training is encouraged. Most calls involve medical emergencies and the department conducts regular training sessions in CPR, defibrillation, and first aid. TVFD currently operates and maintains three vehicles, including a rescue van and two class A fire pumpers. Volunteers attend regular drills to practice fire fighting and medical skills as well as, pump operations, rescue techniques, and driving.

Training is organized and supervised by the Fire Chief and other volunteers who also have professional training and experience. Residents interested in joining the Volunteer Fire Department should contact the City Clerk at 677-0223.

As you strive to build a safer community, please remember you are not alone. The Trinidad Fire Department Volunteers are only a phone call away. For more information about how to keep your family safe from fire and what you can do in an emergency contact your TVFD.
