Public Involvement

This program to date has been developed with significant community support and input. (see FAQs for more history) The City now needs your help - the City is encouraging, and will be actively seeking public input and participation on the development of this program through a series of workshops and/or townhall meetings and public hearings.

A workshop series will be conducted in the Spring of 2005 and will consist of two main parts. The first workshop will consist of an evening meeting with presentations and a question and answer period with representatives from local agencies and septic related professionals. The purpose of the first meeting will informative in nature and will be aimed at updating the community on the proposed program, what it will entail and how it will benefit them as individuals and the community as a whole. This would be a comprehensive workshop that includes visual aids and agency and professional representatives. Information about future OWTS inspections and pumping, as well as training/certification for local septic inspectors and pumpers may be available. The second part of the public informational workshop series will consist of a demonstration of an actual septic tank inspection and pumping. It will provide the public and City staff an idea of what is involved in, and the requirements for a septic system inspection and pumping.

A series of regular public meetings / hearings will be held at the Planning Commission level in order to finish drafting the proposed ordinance and finalize the details of the program itself. Noticed public hearings will also be required at both the Planning Commission and City Council level prior to officially adopting the ordinance and any associated documents.

OWTS Advisory Committee
The City has created an OWTS Advisory Committee to help coordinate and oversee the development and implementation of the OWTS Management Program. The Committee is made up of two Councilmembers, two Planning Commissioners, and one member of the general public. As of the posting of this document, no regular meeting times have been set. To keep yourself informed, please periodically check the Newsbriefs section of the City’s homepage for the must up to date information and announcements.
