General Plan

A general plan is a legal document that serves as the community’s “constitution” for land use, development, and conservation.

A General Plan must be comprehensive and long-term, outlining proposals for the physical development of the City and any land outside its boundaries that, in the City’s judgment, bears relation to its planning.

The Trinidad General Plan is a legislative document that sets forth a community vision, describes development constraints and preferences, and develops policies and programs for the orderly development of public services and private lands to implement the plan. Portions of Trinidad’s general plan also serve as the Land Use Plan portion of the City’s Local Coastal Program. Trinidad’s current general plan was adopted in 1978 and has not been substantially updated. The current general plan update makes use of existing and new data trends and public input to provide a framework of what the community is and will be twenty years in the future.
